Year 3

Syllabus

The course will include:

  • Masunaga Zen Shiatsu theory including the Zen Masunaga meridian pathways.
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) review including the traditional meridians, acupressure points and functions. An introduction to The Six Divisions.
  • Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology in line with the core curriculum requirements of The Shiatsu Society (UK).
  • Practice Management skills.
  • Counselling and Communication skills.
  • Advanced Shiatsu techniques including Movement Shiatsu and the Six Forms of Touch, Shiatsu during pregnancy, Shiatsu for babies and children, Quantum Shiatsu techniques and principles.
  • Specialised conditions linked to Pathology.
  • Diagnosis and Observation; review and consolidation of techniques.
  • Food and Nutrition.
  • Clinic Days; giving recommendations.
  • Self-Development and Personal Growth.
  • Year 3 will also benefit from invited guest teachers, a residential and a visit to The Shiatsu Society Congress in October.
  • Home Study approx 15 hours per month.

The course will be a balanced mixture of theoretical and practical components, with a focus on experiential learning. Practical skills learned in class will be reinforced with written and practical homework set between weekends and regular constructive criticism is given.

Individual tutorials are offered half way through the course where you will get direct one to one feedback on your development. Assessments are held at the end of the year (practical and written).

Eligibility

Students will have completed the previous year with The Shiatsu School, Edinburgh (or a recognised equivalent course), or demonstrate that they have reached the necessary level for entry. A willingness to participate and experiment, in addition to demonstrating commitment to the course is important.

Dates

The course runs over 12 weekends – 10am–5.30pm – with one day given to First Aid training. Along with a 5–day residential course (which is done together with students in Year Two) and a Clinic Day, the course amounts to 194.5 hours.

The Shiatsu Centre, 35–37 Bread Street, Edinburgh, EH3 9AL

Fees

Payment is by a non-refundable deposit of £200.00 (£150 if paid by 30 June 2010) payable in advance; followed by 11 monthly installments of £153.00 from September 2010 to July 2011 inclusive. Both new and mature students are welcome.

The total cost for year 3 is £1,883.00 (or £1,833.00 if paid by June 30th 2010).

Fees include all teaching, assessment and venue fees plus Shiatsu Society membership for one year.

Extra costs: Books, 8 professional Shiatsu sessions, and, if course times are missed, tutorials (1 per teaching day). There may be a small sum (£50 in 2010), payable towards the Residential, half way through 2011.
